Commuter Challenge 2007 Results
The Third Annual South Florida Commuter Challenge to keep single occupancy vehicles off the road and encourage alternative modes to commute was held Thursday, May 17, 2007.
Led by a contingent of city, county and state officials, 8,013 South Floridians took the Challenge with 4,776 being single occupant drivers. Many companies that endorsed the Challenge included:
- Broward County
- Assurant Group
- Barry University
- City of Miami
- Miami-Dade County School District
- University of Miami
- and others.
Most participants cited gas prices as the motivator to take the Challenge.
Each participant in the “Commuter Challenge” was entered for the chance to win various prizes including:
- a trip to the Bahamas
- one year’s worth of commuting costs
- $1,000 in gas from WFLC-FM (Coast 97.3)
- a Sirius Satellite Radio package
- $100 Perry Ellis gift cards.
South Florida Commuter Services (SFCS) conducted this initiative in conjunction with Miami-Dade Transit, Broward County Transit, Palm Beach Transit and Tri-Rail to promote alternatives to driving alone.
